A Letter From Gabriel

Welcome to our travel blog! This is Gabe writing… [typity type type type].

A wise man once told me personally that “a word is worth a thousand pictures” (or something like that). As such, I look forward to filling your lives with millions of pictures over the course of this blog! Humor aside, I’m truly blessed and honored to share my perspective on our travels with you.

I hope to share adventure. I hope to share joy. I will likely share moments of inevitable incompetence. But most importantly I hope to share growth.

The upcoming trip that inspired this blog represents a significant crossroad in mine and Juliette’s life. We have been trying to frame our big decisions around mitigating any future regrets and purposefully putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations. Juliette and I evaluated three ideas in 2017: 1) Buy a house, 2) Start a business, or 3) Do what we could to see the world. A significant adventure coupled with extended time away from family, friends, routine and with little guarantee of sustained work on return certainly meets that decision criteria.

Now if you consider this crossroad to be a “season,” this helps to tell the story of our blog name and theme. Hopefully we will live through many seasons throughout our lives where we can directly influence, but probably can’t control, exactly how things go or end up. Here, our philosophy will be to trust the prevailing winds to guide us through each of these seasons.

As we enter this new “season,” I’m already starting to feel the growth that comes with it. As a good example, those of you who know me know that I tend to be a pretty private person- I don’t wear my emotions on my sleeve or participate much in social media because I prefer to be more behind-the-scenes than in the spotlight. Publicly voicing thoughts, emotions, and experiences is a little terrifying to me! But I’m committed to this blog, aim to push myself and be extra transparent, and hope to at least be a little entertaining!

But Hark! [who EVEN says “hark” anymore?] I feel a gust from the north; a season of travel is in the air…

Come ride the winds with us.
